When emailing an investor you should think of every word in the email as an opportunity to get your message across. One part of the email that is typically under utilized is the subject line. Great subject lines can peak the interest of not only the first recipient of your email, but also anyone else to whom the email is forwarded.

Despite this, most emails are given generic subjects like ‘investment opportunity’, ‘introduction’ or ‘startup’. This is a missed opportunity.

The best way to make your subject line memorable, relevant and catchy is to use your company’s mission statement, as it should be concise while making clear the pain point that you intend to solve. However, you should also be sure that your mission statement is associated with your company’s name. As a result, the best subjects follow this format: “Name: Mission statement”. For example, “Google: Making The World’s Information Accessible”.

It’s important to be concise, because depending on the view setting of the investor’s inbox part of the subject may be cutoff.
